2019 Science Term 1

Layers Of The Earth
This Term in science we learnt about the layers of the earth. As part of our project we had to find out what the different layers are and what makes that layer perfect. The layers is Crust, Mantle, Outer Core, and Inner Core. We also found out what other layers there are in the earth that is important like the lithosphere and the asthenosphere. There are also two other crust called the Oceanic Crust and Continental Crust.
Plate Tectonics
Through this term we also learnt about the Plate Tectonics. We found that Plate Tectonics are the reason why the Pangaea which was one big continent was divide because of the moving of the Tectonic Plates. The three Plate Tectonic movements are Divergent, Convergent and Transform which do different things, the Divergent Plates is when two plates move away from each other, Convergent Plates is when two plates come in together and move in, and finally Transform Plates is when the two plates motion is predominantly horizontal.
Volcanoes
Our class also learnt about volcanoes. We also learnt about the different things that made the volcano erupt. The parts of the volcanoes is the Vent, Ash Cloud, Crater, Parasitic Cone, Throat, Lava, Lava Flow, Conduit our people call it the pipe, Ash, the sill and the Magma Reservoir. These are the eleven things that make a volcano erupt.
Earthquakes
And finally we learnt about earthquakes. I found out that Earthquakes are connected to the Tectonic Plates. I found this out by study the movement of the Earth and saw that it was moving like the Tectonic Plate boundary called Transform.

Term 1 Migration Presentation

Image result for Ireland mixed with new zealand flagIn our year 9 Social Studies we had to present a presentation about countries that migrated to another country. Me and my partner had to make a migration presentation about Ireland and how life was for them. I think me and my partner had made a great presentation that had good reason to why they left there country to a different country, I also think our communication towards one another was good because we both worked together to get our presentation done. I think we could work better on making our presentation much more colorful and making sure that we use our vocabulary in it better. Being apart of the audience I feel like I did a great job in being a positive audience member and also having great listening skills towards what the other groups were saying.

Prime Minister Being Praised

Image result for jacinda ardernIn different countries like America, Afghanistan, Iraq and more there are shootings and also terror attacks, but what happened in New Zealand On the 15th of march 2019 there was a attack according to our Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern she considers it to be called a terror attack and also announced Benton Tarrant a terrorist. The first 16 months of her tenure, she kept increasing and become the most populist in the world for being a young female and progressive women. On the 21th of march Muslims and other people gathered together to remember the people that has been killed in the tragedy that had taken place in two of there places of worship. Also in the crowd was Jacinda Ardern, by showing respect and support to the Muslims people Jacinda Ardern wore a Hijab which is worn by the Muslim women. Because of this a term had been coined and has described the phenomenon: “Jacindamania”. My thoughts on her visiting the mosque was to me amazing because she was showing empathy to the Muslims and everyone around the world who is reading or watching the event.

We had to read a current events story about Jacinda Ardern going to a gathering that happened, and how she showed them her empathy and support to the Muslim people and to everyone that was there at the gathering.

Empathy Paragraph

Image result for empathy

Empathy, empathy is something that gives you the ability to understand and share the feelings of other people that are around you. Do you think it’s important to have empathy in your life? Well I empathy is important to have in your life because it does help you understand what people in life are going through each and everyday that they don’t show at school or wherever you meet them. It also is important because you can help people by sharing a life lesson that happened to you that might be similar to what they went through and maybe make him or her share what they have been holding in, which would make them feel better and happier and maybe also help you create a better connection in your relationship as friends. Another way empathy can affect you positively is by encouraging people around you and making them feel like they are able to get through the tough times with help and encouragement.

There are a lot of different countries including pacific countries, one of them is called Kiribati it’s in fact one of the top 25 smallest countries but that is not what they were on the news for. Sometime around this week news reported that Kiribati was going to drown underwater because of Climate Change, which is affecting the island of Kiribati. Kiribati people are starting to think there country is going to drown because the richer countries are making more and more Greenhouse Gases which is keeping there country warm and is also causing the Earth to get warmer which changes the Weather Patterns, because of the Greenhouse Gases the Kiribati people want them to stop so that there people can stay and enjoy their culture and there home country together with there family and friends. People in Kiribati are beginning to Migrate from there homes near the shore because there is less land around their property and people are fighting with one another which is starting to make the island of Kiribati more crowded which is why there is not enough space for crop growing.

Current Event

Image result for Jacinda Ardern vows to keep New Zealanders safe against Kiwi jihadist, but expert says he 'isn't a threat'
In this current event article there was a man Named Mark Taylor who is being held in a Syrian prison. He is held there after surrendering to Kurdish forces, he also renounced his citizenship and very publicly burnt his passport. But Mark wants to return back to New Zealand because he says he has learnt his lesson. In my own perspective I think that he shouldn’t come back to New Zealand  because he has burnt the one thing that shows people what country or city you were from, and because some of the government people feel that he was involved in such things like killing and also think he did more than just watch what was going on.
